We’re privileged to be hosting the launch of a new and visionary home for poetry – Hazel Press. Join us to celebrate this independent publisher which focuses on the environment, the realities of climate change, feminism, and the arts. As part of the launch we’ll hear readings from each one of their poets: Sean Borodale, Ella Duffy, Matthew Hollis, and Anna SelbyCome and be there at the start of the journey. 

 

Author Biographies

Sean Borodale works as a poet and artist and has published three collections of poetry with Jonathan Cape. His collection Bee Journal was shortlisted for the TS Eliot Prize and Costa Books Award, whilst his poem-doc Mighty Beast gained a Radio Academy Gold Award for Best Feature or Documentary. He was selected as a Next Generation Poet in 2014. He divides time between London and Somerset. 

Matthew Hollis is the author of Ground Water (Bloodaxe, 2004), shortlisted for the Guardian First Book Award and the Whitbread Prize for Poetry. Now All Roads Lead to Francethe Last Years of Edward Thomas (Faber, 2011; Norton, 2012) won the Costa Biography Award and was Sunday Times Biography of the Year. 

Anna Selby is a poet and naturalist. She works collaboratively with conservationists, and is doing a PhD on Plein Air Poetry, Empathy and Ecology at Manchester Metropolitan University. Her poetry often explores our connection with water and the natural world. She writes poetic-studies of different species in-situ, directly from life, often underwater, and aims for these poems to share a sense of compassion and attentiveness to the environment. 

Ella Duffy is a London-based poet. Her work has been widely published and anthologised, appearing in AmbitThe Guardian Review and The Rialto, among others. She was shortlisted for the 2020 Pat Kavanagh Prize and won the Live Canon International Poetry Competition in 2019. Her debut pamphlet, ‘New Hunger’, was published by Smith|Doorstop in May 2020.
