Amartya Sen Live in Cambridge

£10.00£12.00 - Single event ticket
World renowned academic, writer, Nobel Prize Winner and Former Master of Trinity College, Amartya Sen revisits his university town for this in person event to share his much awaited and expansive memoir, Home in the World.

This event will be held live for a socially distanced audience at West Road Concert Hall, Cambridge

Where is ‘home’?

For Amartya Sen, it has been many places all over the world: Dhaka in modern Bangladesh where he grew up, the village of Santiniketan where he was raised by his grandparents as much as by his parents, Calcutta where he first studied economics and was active in student movements, and Trinity College, Cambridge, to which he came aged nineteen. Alongside Sen’s evocative and intriguing portraits of people and places, his memoir is also a book of ideas, engaging with Marx, Keynes, and Arrow, as well as painting the historic culture of Bengal and exploring political inflaming of Hindu-Muslim hostility and the resistance to it. Some members of his family were imprisoned for their opposition to British Rule and, unsurprisingly, the relationship between Britain and India is a key theme.
