James Rebanks & Rory Stewart: English Pastoral
James Rebanks, otherwise known as the Herdwick Shepherd (@herdyshepherd1), captured our hearts with his first book The Shepherd’s Life, a brilliant depiction of contemporary rural life in the Lake District where his family have farmed for over 600 years.
His latest book, English Pastoral, tells of how rural landscapes around the world have been brought close to collapse, and how the age-old rhythms of work, weather, community and wild things are being lost.
James will talk to former Penrith MP Rory Stewart about what it means to have love and pride in a place and how it may still be possible to build a new pastoral: not a utopia, but somewhere decent for us all.
